McCandless Project

McCandless No Phone Project.
My experiment was going a full school day without texting my friends. My friends reaction was that they thought I was mad at them for not responding to their texts. They were asking me questions to why I wasn't answering my phone. During the experiment I felt lost, horrible. I felt that way because my phone helps me keep track of the time and I can check progress book whenever. I felt lost because everyone had their phone with them and I didn't feel connected. I was not entertained in anything throughout the day. However, later on in the day I felt a little better.  I actually could concentrate on my work without being distracted by my phone. I could get all my homework done and physically talk to people at lunch instead of being on my phone. I didn't have to stop anything important that  I was doing to look to see if I had a text from someone. I felt better not having it. I was not surprised about my reaction with not having my phone. I had tried not having my phone for a long time period. So, it wasn't a big deal.  I was surprised by my friends reaction because it actually showed that they did care about me not answering. Also that they were worried about me not answering them. I do think I was free during the experiment because I could actually get things done. However, the term “free” isn't accurate because after the school day I went back to my old ways. I was free from all social media. I could think and get things done faster without my phone. I think this shows a lot. How society is so wrapped up on phones and being lazy. Everyone could get a lot of work done when you don’t have your phone around. I felt better not being wrapped up all in my phone and being on social media. I could physically talk to my friends face to face and study for important tests that I had. This experiment shows that sometimes you should turn off your phone and see how you feel. At first I felt lost not having my phone around but I got use to not looking at a screen for hours. I felt relieved not looking at my phone and checking if I had a text.

Personal Quote

My quote was from the book Into The Wild. It says, "The bush is an unforgiving place, however, that cares nothing for hope or longing"(Krakauer4).I chose this quote because it has a deep meaning to it. It says that everyone has something that is unforgiving and embarrassing that is kept to themselves. However, something deep inside it no longer has greatness to it. The quote represents me by showing that life can get hard and I go through tough things and sometimes I give up and I no longer care. That I have a place to go to think about situations. Everyone has a place to go to find hope or forgiveness. My life would be different if I lived by this quote. I would find the worse in something. I would no longer care about finding the common good,  hope. Also that somewhere there is forgiveness in something.
